I thought I ate well. My first BalanceTest, in May 2025, showed a ratio of 48:1. Since then, I measure regularly. Here are my four results, as they are, unpolished.

Omega 3: the essentials in four points

EPA and DHA

The long chain omega 3 measured in the blood are mainly EPA and DHA. They are found mostly in oily fish and in some algae.

Plant omega 3

Flax, walnuts and rapeseed provide ALA, an omega 3 that the body converts into EPA and DHA only in small amounts.

The omega 6:3 ratio

Omega 6 is very common in today's diet: sunflower and corn oils, processed foods. The ratio compares its share with the share of omega 3 in your blood.

Why measure

The test replaces a guess with a number, and a second test shows how that number changes.

Frequently asked questions

How does the sampling work?

You prick your fingertip with the automatic lancet provided, place a few drops of blood on the card, let it dry, then post it to the lab in the envelope included in the kit.

Why the kit rather than the test alone?

The kit brings the test and BalanceOil+ together by subscription, and the second test is sent free of charge after 120 days, provided the subscription is active and fully paid. You measure your starting point, then the effect of your changes, without buying another test.

How does the subscription work, and how do I stop it?

You can cancel it at any time by notifying Zinzino customer service; cancellation takes effect 30 days after your request (Zinzino subscription terms, article 5), with no minimum period. Good to know: the free second test is only sent if the subscription is active and fully paid at 120 days.

Who analyses my sample?

An independent lab, Vitas Analytical Services, in Norway. Your sample is identified by a code, not by your name.

Where do I see my results?

Online, by entering your test code. You get your omega 6:3 ratio, your omega 3 index and the detail of your fatty acids.

Is there a fish free version?

Yes, BalanceOil+ Vegan provides omega 3 from algae oil. It is available in Belgium.

I already take omega 3, is the test useful?

Yes: it gives your omega 6:3 ratio and omega 3 index as they are today, and a second test then shows how they change.

Why test a second time?

The second test shows the real effect of your changes. Zinzino suggests retesting after about 120 days, the renewal time of red blood cells.

Who are you?

My name is Emmanuel Martineau. I have been an athlete since I was young, and I compete in powerlifting. I served eleven years in the Paris Fire Brigade, from 2011 to 2022, before becoming an entrepreneur. Stage 3 osteoarthritis made me even more careful about what I put into my body, and about how I supplement.
